Greetings and Welcome!

I am foremost a painter, an artist with an enduring love of textiles. I live in a small village on the coast of Maine. An intrinsic pursuit of the art of block printing permeates all aspects of my work. The collection of limited edition textiles presented here is informed by extensive travel, research and study of historical methods and materials, mostly in India but is also influenced by the study of European and Japanese textile traditions. A distinct aesthetic and love of detail,  clearly visible in my art, (www.antoniamunroe.com) permeates all Antonia Textile designs.

Indigo, a blue dye in use for millennia, and which is extracted from the noble Indigofera tinctoria plant, plays center stage for me. However, certain natural dyes such as myrobalan, madder, pomegranate, and cutch are also presented, offering a mysterious earthy palette providing beautiful background colors over which I stencil hand-mixed textile print pastes. And lastly but not least, the brilliant colors I am able to achieve using fiber-reactive dyes are ultimately rewarding and add another dimension to the entire collection.

Please visit the Antonia Textiles shop, in our big green barn in Camden, open by appointment, pretty much year round. It is a delight to feel the luxurious items in linen, cotton, silk and wool as well as enjoy the adorable shop itself.
